Why Does Apple Music Auto-Play?

Apple Music has a feature called Auto-Play. It keeps the music going by playing similar songs after your playlist or album ends. While this can be useful, it’s not for everyone.

Luckily, turning it off is simple. Let’s go through the steps!

How to Disable Auto-Play on iPhone & iPad

  1. Open the Apple Music app.
  2. Start playing any song.
  3. Tap the small Now Playing bar at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Look for the Auto-Play icon (it looks like an infinity symbol ∞).
  5. Tap it to turn it off. If it turns gray, you’re done!

That’s it! Now, Apple Music won’t keep playing songs automatically.

How to Stop Apple Music from Auto-Playing in Your Car

Apple Music sometimes starts playing when you connect to your car’s Bluetooth. This can be frustrating, but here’s how to prevent it:

Option 1: Disable Auto-Play in Car Settings

  1. Go to Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Bluetooth and find your car’s name.
  3. Tap the i icon next to it.
  4. Turn off Auto-Play, if available.

Option 2: Use Screen Time

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Go to Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  3. Tap Allowed Apps and turn off Apple Music when driving.

If these settings don’t work, try playing a silent track before connecting to your car.

How to Stop Apple Music from Auto-Playing on Mac

If you’re using Apple Music on a Mac, follow these steps to disable auto-play:

  1. Open the Music app.
  2. Play a song and click on the Up Next icon.
  3. Find the Auto-Play button (∞) and turn it off.

Once you do this, Apple Music will stop playing songs automatically.

Bonus: Prevent Apple Music from Opening Automatically

Sometimes, Apple Music opens by itself when you connect your headphones or start your Mac. Here’s how to stop that from happening.

On Mac (When Using Bluetooth or Headphones)

  1. Open System Settings.
  2. Go to Users & Groups.
  3. Click Login Items.
  4. Find Apple Music and remove it from the list.

On iPhone

  1. Go to Settings → Music.
  2. Turn off Show Apple Music.

These simple tweaks will keep Apple Music from launching on its own!

Final Thoughts

Apple Music’s Auto-Play feature is great for continuous listening, but it isn’t for everyone. Now, you know how to turn it off on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and even in your car.

Enjoy your music the way you want—without any unexpected surprises!
